The haunted knoll

No one seems to have lived at The Haunted Knoll for many years. The shutters hang crooked, the roof is about to collapse, and nature has slowly been allowed to spread around the large old house. Yet there is something about the place that makes you doubt whether it really is empty. Maybe the house wasn't abandoned without reason.

The path to the front door rises up a wide stone stairway between columns crowned with skulls. Tombstones are scattered around the house, black crows have taken over the façade and roof, and several windows look like they've seen better days. Everywhere you find traces of decay, from the broken shutters to the dark, worn roof and the overgrown surroundings. When the light is turned on inside The Haunted Knoll, the mystery only deepens. If the house really is abandoned, who turned on the light?

The Haunted Knoll can form the setting for the classic haunted part of a Halloween landscape, where you preferably take a detour after dark. Maybe the stories about the house are just something Spooky Town's kids tell each other to get scared. But the crows remain, the tombstones still stand in the garden, and the light reveals that something is happening behind the old walls. It might be best not to investigate who lives inside.
