Christmas Seal Homes

The Christmas Seal homes are important — that's why we support them

At achristmastale.com we want to do more than just spread Christmas spirit. We also want to help ensure that the warm feelings and the message of neighbourly love extend far beyond the holiday season. That's why we have chosen to support the Christmas Seal Foundation, which runs the five Christmas Seal homes in Denmark. All proceeds from the products in this category are therefore donated in full to the foundation's work helping children who struggle with poor well‑being, low self‑esteem, bullying and social challenges.

Support the Christmas Seal homes

When you buy a Christmas Seal product from us, you help give a child the opportunity for a new chapter in life. At the Christmas Seal homes, children aged 7–14 take part in a 10‑week stay where they are met with care, understanding and support. Professional pedagogues, teachers, dietitians and well‑being staff work closely together to help the children build confidence, healthy habits and social skills.

Community, security and well‑being are the key principles in the daily work. The children learn to take responsibility for themselves, strengthen their self‑image and experience that they are not alone. For many children, the stay at a Christmas Seal home becomes a turning point that helps them move forward in life with new friendships, renewed courage and the belief that they are good enough just as they are.

The history of the Christmas Seal homes

The history of the Christmas Seals goes all the way back to 1904, when the very first Danish Christmas Seal was issued with a simple but powerful purpose: to help vulnerable children in Denmark. It was postmaster Einar Holbøll who came up with the idea to sell Christmas Seals as a supplement to holiday mail and to use the surplus for charity. The idea was a success and later spread to many other countries.

Since then the tradition has grown, and the Christmas Seals have become a beloved symbol of Danish Christmas and neighbourly love. Today, sales of Christmas Seals are still used to finance the operation of the Christmas Seal homes. The decline in holiday mail, and consequently in the classic Christmas Seals, also means a reduction in the funds the Foundation receives from those sales. Therefore, the Christmas Seal homes today depend on these funds being supplemented by donations from companies and private individuals.
