The snow globe was invented by the Austrian Erwin Perzy at the end of the 19th century. Perzy invented the snow globe almost by accident when he was trying to invent a special light source that could be used for surgeries. The result reminded him of falling snow, and from here the idea for the snow globe sprouted. Descendants of Perzy still run the family business in Austria today, with the “original” snow globes.
