Dreary Decorations

The little house with the four towers is being prepared for Halloween. A woman with long gray hair stands on a stool hanging this year’s Halloween banner while her black cat watches the work. At the entrance to Dreary Decorations two grinning jack-o'-lanterns are already in place, and a couple of white ghosts have found their spots on the façade. Now all that’s missing are the guests — but who will come to visit?

The house almost looks like a small fairytale castle with its four slender towers, blue roofs, and old stone walls. Above the door hangs a large skull, perhaps to remind visitors that despite the festive decorations it is still Spooky Town. When the lights inside the house are turned on, the windows glow warmly, highlighting the little Halloween scene. The many details make it fun to imagine who might live behind the heavy door and what will happen when darkness falls.

The little Halloween house can take its place in one of Spooky Town's quieter streets, where residents are also looking forward to this year’s big celebration. But maybe the woman should wait a little before opening the door when someone knocks. In a town full of ghosts and skeletons you never quite know whether guests come for candy or to move in.
