Ribenisserne Freja with Christmas Tree

Every year Freja goes out behind Ydermøllen to cut down her own Christmas tree. It rarely turns out perfectly straight, as the tree is often a little crooked and a bit stubborn. But that suits Freja just fine, because, as she says, she is exactly the same. With the tree over her shoulder she makes her way through Ribe and heads home toward the Christmas parlor.

Ribenissen Freja from Ib Laursen is 12.3 cm tall and shows her midway through the walk with the freshly cut Christmas tree. She is dressed warmly in patterned knitwear, brown trousers, a scarf and the obligatory red elf hat. The tree and her walking pose turn Freja into a lively little scene that looks sweet among firs, Christmas houses and other gnome decorations.

Freja is 358 Christmas Eves old, and the journey home with the Christmas tree has become a firm tradition. Along the way she nods to the streetlamps and Ribe’s sleeping windows. Most of all she looks forward to Christmas morning, when the scent of fresh fir has spread through the room.
