Ribe Elves Eigil, Seated

Eigil is in no hurry. He likes to sit on the stone steps behind the old Cathedral in Ribe and listen to the bells, just as he has done for centuries. After 487 Christmas Eves he knows their sound very well, but according to Eigil himself the bells sound best in winter, when the cold has settled over the town.

Ribenissen Eigil from Ib Laursen is a seated gnome measuring 10 cm in length and 8 cm in height. He sits comfortably in his blue trousers, striped sleeves and red vest with the classic red gnome hat on his head. The relaxed pose makes him easy to place on a shelf, on a windowsill or among other Ribenisser in a small Christmas display.

Passersby might think that Eigil is sitting and waiting for someone. He isn't. He simply loves being right there and watching Ribe. There's something quite special about the light in the town when it hits the old cobblestones in December.

Eigil is part of Ribenisserne®, Ib Laursen's collectible series inspired by Ribe, the town's history and the stories of the nisser who have lived side by side with the townspeople for generations.
